Blog --- Partial Solar Eclipse 2011 and 2025

27.03.2025 - 5:00 pm

On Saturday, 29.3.2025 at noon, a partial solar eclipse will take place, which can be seen in German-speaking countries.

The show will not be extremely impressive, only 20 percent occultation is predicted for Cologne. Further north it goes up to 22 percent, in the south it is less than ten. The sun is darkened a bit in the upper right, which you only notice if you really look.

In Cologne, it starts at 11:19 a.m. CET, the maximum is reached at 12:10 p.m. and ends entirely at 1:02 p.m.

WITHOUT A FILTER, YOU SHOULD NOT LOOK AT THE SUN !!!

Even a cursory glance is not a good idea. Especially not through a telescope, binoculars, even camera lenses are not recommended.

But a look with the naked eye AND a sun filter is worth a try.

Maybe someone has an old Eclipse pair of glasses from 1999 lying around somewhere? Several layers of silver foil from a first aid kit could also be sufficient, but I do not guarantee this.

In 2011, I was able to record an 80 percent occultation near the TV Tower of Cologne. The picture below gives a first impression, for more see page Partial Solar Eclipse 2011.

Ciao,
Martin
